SARA COHEN, CANTORIAL SOLOIST
We are delighted that Sara Cohen will return as our cantorial soloist for the Days of Awe! Sara joined us last year from Kibbutz Ketura where she lives, works and has been a member of the Keren Kolot Faculty since its founding in 1989. Last year everyone in our services loved her inclusive style, beautiful voice, and knowledge of the service. Her passion for the liturgy and desire to inspire everyone's singing participation was felt throughout the entire High Holy Days. Sara's wonderful energy and partnership with Rabbi Greenspoon transcended the traditional cantorial role as she taught us a couple of new melodies, shared her own insights to the liturgy, and made wonderful connections with the community.
Beyond Kibbutz life, Sara led Yamim Noraim services at Tikva Tova in Cape Town, South Africa from 2005-2011. This “orthodox egalitarian” community also appreciated the many gifts that she brings to her pulpit role. Before moving to Israel in 1986, Sara earned her B.A. in Religion from Barnard College, Columbia University. She also has earned an M.A. in Jewish Studies and Women’s Studies from the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem.
Please enjoy this mp3 sampler of Sara singing Kol Nidre.
